ECOFIN and Euro Group meet in Brussels this week The tax system and the fight against fraud are among the economic priorities of the Spanish Presidency of the EU

This week the finance and economy ministers of the European Union will tackle how to improve tax regulation and the fight against fraud among others issues in a meeting chaired by the Second Deputy Prime Minister of Spain and Minister of the Economy and Finance, Elena Salgado.

The Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) of the EU will meet on Tuesday in Brussels to discuss directives on tax savings, administrative cooperation and mutual assistance in relation to tax collection, among other issues. It will also cover the negotiation of agreements on the fight against fraud with Andorra, Monaco, San Marino and Switzerland.

The day before will also see a Euro Group meeting in Brussels, with the ministers of finance and economy from the 16 European countries that use the common Euro currency. The meeting will be chaired by the Prime Minister of Luxembourg and Minister of Finance, Jean-Claude Juncker, Chair of the Euro Group.

The Second Deputy Prime Minister of the Spanish Government will present the key areas of the economic program of the Spanish Presidency will follow. The situation of Greece's public finances will also be discussed.
