- The Agriculture and Fisheries Council is chaired by the Spanish Minister for the Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs, Elena Espinosa.
- Programme
- At this Monday’s Council meeting, the Community agriculture ministers will try to strengthen this sector’s role in the European Union’s economic plan for the future, known as the 2020 Strategy.
The Agriculture and Fisheries Council will try to ‘complement’ the conclusions of the last European summit, at which the EU’s heads of state and government expressed the importance of the Common Agricultural Policy to this strategy.
The EU ministers are expected to agree on measures to improve the low prices which farmers receive for their products.
