- The Foreign Affairs Council is expected to discuss the following issues: piracy/Somalia, nuclear non-proliferation, Iran and EU relations with strategic partners. The Council will also include a development segment during which ministers will exchange views on gender equality in development cooperation and debate development policies in the context of the future European External Action Service. Ministers are also expected to discuss the EU's approach to the UN High-Level Plenary Meeting on the review of the Millennium Development Goals, which will take place in New York from 20 to 22 September. Moreover, the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton, will update ministers on the situation in Haiti. A press conference will take place at the end of the proceedings. A number of events are planned in the margins of the Council: On Monday 10 May, the European Economic Area Council, and on Tuesday 11 May, the Stabilisation and Association Council with Albania, Political Dialogue with South Africa and Association Council with Tunisia.
