- The European Council will begin on Thursday 25 at 17:00 and will end on Wednesday 26 at midday. A press conference is planned for Thursday 25 at around 22:30 and another for Friday 26 at around 13:00. - Provisional agenda: I.NEW EUROPEAN STRATEGY FOR JOBS AND GROWTH. On the basis of the Commission's Europe 2020 communication, the European Council will be invited to agree on the general framework of the Union's new strategy for jobs and growth. In particular, it will be invited to finalise the governance of the strategy and agree on a limited number of EU-wide quantitative targets, which will subsequently be translated into differentiated national targets.In this context, the European Council will take stock of ongoing efforts by the European Union and its Member States to tackle the current economic crisis. Of particular importance in that respect are issues such as the implementation of coordinated exit strategies and progress,both at the EU and global level, in relevant fields such as financial supervision and regulation.The European Council will also hold a preliminary discussion on the preparation of the G20 summit. II. FOLLOW-UP TO COPENHAGEN CONFERENCE ON CLIMATE CHANGE. The European Council will assess the state of work regarding the follow-up to the Copenhagen Conference, both as regards the international negotiation process and the Union's relations with its strategic partners.
